In an interview with Bern, "Sunday Morning Future," on Fox News, President Donald Trump stated that he does not intend to extend the 90-day suspension period on tariffs imposed on most countries after July 9, which is the deadline set for negotiations, adding that his administration will notify countries that trade sanctions will come into effect unless agreements are reached with the United States.
Trump added: "These messages will say: Congratulations, we allow you to shop in the United States, but you will pay tariffs of 25%, 35%, 50%, or 10%."
Trump had downplayed the significance of the deadline during a press conference at the White House on Friday, noting the difficulty of reaching separate agreements with each country, as the administration had set a goal of reaching 90 trade agreements within 90 days.
He clarified in the interview that negotiations are still ongoing, but he said: "There are 200 countries, and you can't talk to all of them."
