#Bhutan : The First Country to Not Only Embrace Crypto, But to Make It the Center of Its Economy! The small but visionary kingdom of South Asia has taken a historic step that will reshape its tourism and digital economy. Thanks to a strategic partnership with #Binance , Bhutan has officially launched the world’s first national crypto payment system.

Crypto Revolution in Tourism: SWIFT is Gone, Binance Pay is In

At the “Digital Bhutan” panel organized in collaboration with Binance, Bhutanese officials made their vision clear: Not just talking about crypto in theory, but making it the center of daily life.

“The biggest complaint from visitors is the difficulties in international payments. SWIFT doesn’t work, cards don’t work. But Binance Pay completely solves this problem,” said Damcho Rinzin, Director of the Bhutan Tourism Department. He even noted that some tourists shop at local markets with crypto and even cook their own meals.

High-Income Tourist Target: 300K Visitors, 3 Times More Spending

Bhutan’s goal is not just to increase the number of tourists; it is to have visitors stay longer and spend more. The synergy created with Binance Pay’s 40 million-plus users could bring great economic vitality to the country.

“This is no longer speculation, it’s infrastructure. The average crypto tourist spends about three times as much as a traditional tourist — around $1,000 — and the payments are instant,” said Binance CEO Richard Teng, highlighting the economic benefits of the process.

Over 1,000 Local Businesses Accept Crypto – No Commission!

Over 1,000 businesses in Bhutan have already integrated into the Binance Pay system. Moreover, unlike the high fees of traditional payment systems, Binance Pay has zero commissions.

DK Bank, one of the local architects of crypto adoption, previously led Bhutan’s bitcoin mining initiatives. Now, it is at the forefront of the payments revolution.

“We are already good at mobile and QR payments. Crypto is a natural extension of that,” said the bank’s CEO Ugyen Tenzin, adding that the process is starting to be adopted by the public.

City of the Future: Blockchain-Oriented Living at Gelephu Mindfulness City

Bhutan’s vision for the future is not limited to tourism. A new city called Gelephu Mindfulness City, where nature, culture and technology intertwine, is planned.

“This is just the beginning. Many more blockchain-based projects are on the way. Digital assets are now officially recognized as a growth engine in Bhutan,” said Hobeng Lim, the project’s finance manager.

Lim’s final words summarize Bhutan’s vision:

“Crypto is not a side experiment for us. It will be the country’s main industry.”

🧠 Analysis & Conclusion

Bhutan may be the first country in the world to approach crypto in such a holistic way. Bhutan, which has drawn an ambitious roadmap to increase financial inclusion, grow tourism revenues and integrate technology with the local, sees Binance Pay not just as a payment system but as an economic springboard.

As the digital economies of the future are being written, Bhutan is a candidate to be on the first pages of this book.
