💵💵Vitalik Buterin Warns About Sam Altman's Altcoin Project: Privacy at Risk! 💵💵
Ethereum (ETH) co-founder Vitalik Buterin stated that the digital identity system developed by OpenAI CEO and Worldcoin (WLD) founder Sam Altman threatens the right of internet users to remain anonymous. Vitalik Buterin, one of the leading figures in the crypto world, made significant warnings especially regarding the Worldcoin project led by Sam Altman. He mentioned that projects using iris scanning and zero-knowledge proofs (ZK proofs) technology for user identity verification could harm the freedom to browse the internet under pseudonyms or anonymously, emphasizing that this risk is increasing.
Buterin expressed that the 'one person, one digital identity' approach could lead to all online activities of users being consolidated under a single identity, which could severely restrict the freedom of anonymity. He noted that such a system could leave users vulnerable to both digital and physical threats and endanger internet freedom.
Risks of the Single Identity Model
Worldcoin (WLD) has reached over 13 million users worldwide and is collecting iris scanning data to create digital identities. The project aims to integrate these identities into social media, financial services, and dating applications like Tinder.
However, Buterin pointed out that if such systems become widespread, users' ability to remain anonymous or use pseudonyms by opening multiple accounts could be eliminated. Therefore, he argued that developing digital identities using decentralized, multiple, and pluralistic models would be more appropriate.
Buterin's statements may reignite discussions on digital identity and could lead to increased criticism of projects like Worldcoin.
