Bhutan has partnered with Binance Pay and DK Bank to introduce the world's first national cryptocurrency tourism payment system. This innovative initiative allows tourists to use over 100 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, BNB, and USDC, to pay for various travel expenses, such as:

Travel and Accommodation:

Flights

Hotel reservations

Visa fees

Local Experiences:

Tour guides

Monument entry fees

Local crafts

Everyday Purchases:

Fresh fruit from roadside vendors

Other local goods and services

The system works by enabling tourists to scan static or dynamic QR codes displayed by merchants using the Binance app. Binance Pay processes the payments instantly, while DK Bank handles the immediate conversion to Bhutan's local currency, Ngultrum (BTN). This solution removes issues commonly encountered when traveling abroad, such as:

High Currency Exchange Fees: No extra charges for converting cryptocurrencies to local currency

Limited Acceptance of International Cards: Merchants can accept cryptocurrency payments with just a QR code

Real-time Transaction Confirmations: Ensuring a seamless and transparent payment experience

This partnership benefits local businesses, especially small vendors in remote areas, by providing them with digital payment capabilities and access to the global digital economy. Bhutan's Director of Tourism, Damcho Rinzin, stated that this initiative is a commitment to innovation, inclusion, and convenience, enhancing the travel experience while supporting local growth ¹ ².
