The story of public chains may not be appealing, but the $270 million funding is definitely attractive~
Let's take a look at @Somnia_Network, which will launch its mainnet in the second half of 2025, and see its strength!
The $270 million funding should be inaccurate; according to the research report by @MessariCrypto, it is a $270 million fund for investment and building the ecosystem.
From Somnia's official website, we know that during the testnet phase, it has already surpassed the vast majority of public chains, basically covering every layer of the public chain development stack, including but not limited to Wallet, Bridge, Oracle, RPC, DeFi, NFT, AI, Social, and Gambling.
The attached image shows the current testnet ecosystem, which is quite extensive!
Moreover, they have also collaborated with Monad to bring in Sparkadia, a fighting game crafted by former League of Legends and Blizzard developers, showcasing some of Somnia's superpowers, haha.
Regarding the origin of Somnia, it is a combination of investment and technological collaboration between Improbable and Msquared.
Improbable provided $120 million in funding support through entrepreneurial incubation.
Msquared raised $150 million in April 2022 from institutions like a16z crypto, SoftBank, Mirana, and DCG to support Somnia, and plans to integrate it into Msquared's metaverse network!
Technically, Improbable provides support for the blockchain part, while Msquared provides support for the metaverse part.
Also, Improbable is the parent company of Msquared, which makes this relationship a bit complicated.
In summary, Somnia's technical and funding background is truly impressive, but not many in the Chinese community are discussing it.
According to the currently available information, it seems that out of the $270 million, only $20 million has been spent so far, with $10 million for the ecosystem subsidy program, $10 million for the Web3 game accelerator, and what about the remaining $250 million?
I'm worried I've missed out on something big; I don't know if it's still possible to participate in the testnet now.
I originally thought about writing some technical content, but with Bee @blockTVBee's outstanding research article preceding me, I won't embarrass myself.
Finally, I hope that after the mainnet launch, more subsidies will be provided in the DeFi field, after all, there is money to be made!
That's all!
