Enfinity, a renewable energy developer, and social media giant Meta Platforms announced on Thursday the signing of four agreements to supply data centers with an additional 791 megawatts of solar and wind energy.
This agreement is the latest in a series of deals Meta has made to meet the growing demand for energy in its data centers, necessary for the artificial intelligence technologies that utilize clean energy.
Last year, Meta signed four contracts with Enfinity, based in Chicago, to provide 760 megawatts of solar electricity, and Enfinity stated that Thursday’s agreements raise the total partnership between the two companies to 1800 megawatts.
Meta had previously announced agreements with several large solar projects and a startup in the geothermal energy space, and it is seeking proposals from nuclear energy developers.
The energy company added that electricity from Enfinity's solar and wind projects in Ohio, Arkansas, and Texas will be connected to the local grid, while Meta will receive the associated clean energy credits tied to the new generation capacity that will come online.
The companies did not disclose the financial details of the deals.
Meta is seeking to provide the necessary energy to support its large expansions in the world of artificial intelligence and its data centers, and Meta is one of the prominent players in the world of artificial intelligence, striving to outperform its rivals Microsoft, Amazon, and Apple by signing agreements with various startups in both the technology and energy sectors.
