The Moca Foundation, backed by Animoca Brands, has announced the launch of Moca Chain – a new Layer 1 blockchain network focused on decentralized digital identity and user data management. The testnet is expected to launch in Q3 2025, with the mainnet planned for Q4 of the same year, the foundation confirmed on Wednesday.
According to a press release from the company, Moca Chain will empower individuals, AI agents, and devices to take full ownership of their personal data and digital certificates. This is aimed at reducing dependence on centralized data storage systems and traditional identity management services.
The new blockchain network is designed to support multiple identity protocols across finance, education, and healthcare, while also being able to consolidate and authenticate user information securely and privately over a decentralized infrastructure.
New decentralized networks and identity applications
Moca Chain integrates pioneering technologies such as zero-knowledge transport layer security (ZK-TLS), decentralized storage, and multi-chain identity oracles to scale privacy-preserving digital identity solutions.
The platform is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), allowing seamless interaction with Ethereum-based applications and ecosystems.
According to the Moca Foundation, Moca Chain is suitable for building thousands of protocols focused on reusable and verifiable identities. The infrastructure allows developers to issue and verify user certificates without the need for centralized authentication layers.
This certificate can be authenticated on-chain or off-chain, protected by zero-knowledge proofs, ensuring privacy even when identifying data is shared or commercialized.
Protocols and applications built on Moca Chain can directly access identity and reputation data from end users, independent of platform-level application APIs.
SSO – a security weakness in the current ecosystem
In a recent speech, Yat Siu – co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands – commented on the application of single sign-on (SSO) system, allowing access to multiple services with just one set of credentials.
In Web3, SSO solutions like Web3Auth and Magic simplify registration by linking decentralized wallets to familiar login methods like Google or Apple ID. However, if this service provider is hacked or goes offline, users can lose access to all associated services.
Furthermore, these systems still maintain control of authentication on the backend, which is completely contrary to the core decentralization principles and commitments of blockchain.
“SSO is a centralized point of failure that undermines security,” Siu emphasized. “Moca Chain aims to solve this problem by giving users truly decentralized ownership of their data, ensuring digital identity sovereignty without a single point of failure.”
He also said that combined with Moca Network's AIR Kit, Moca Chain creates a decentralized digital ecosystem where users have complete control over their data, reputation, and digital contributions.
This vision supports Animoca Brands' mission to expand digital asset ownership and create a more equitable digital economy.
Air Kit Expands Moca Chain's Influence
AIR Kit, an identification module already used by many businesses in the Animoca Brands ecosystem, is expected to expand the Moca Chain network to more than 700 million potential users globally.
Platforms that have integrated AIR Kit include OK Cashbag, a South Korean loyalty program with over 28 million verified users, and One Football, a German digital media company serving 200 million monthly active users. Data from these platforms will be accessed by applications and protocols built on Moca Chain.
Kenneth Shek, project lead for Moca Network, said Moca Chain and AIR Kit are developing “a completely new digital infrastructure.”
“Through the adoption of Moca Chain and MOCA Coin, we believe we will disrupt current models of data ownership, and end the monopolistic influence of closed ecosystems,” he affirmed.
He emphasized the goal of bringing value back to users, while promoting a more sustainable and scalable ecosystem development model.
