Bitcoin, altcoins, memecoins?
What is the difference between so many cryptos?
If you are taking your first steps in the crypto world, you have surely encountered a sea of strange names.
But not everything is the same.
Understanding the differences is key.
Bitcoin (BTC):
The first cryptocurrency. Born in 2009.
It is the most well-known, with a limited supply (21M), considered a store of value by many.
It does not depend on governments or banks.
It is the "digital gold."
Altcoins:
Any cryptocurrency that is not Bitcoin.
Some well-known ones: ETH (Ethereum), BNB, SOL.
Some improve technical aspects of Bitcoin or have specific uses (smart contracts, payments, etc.).
Stablecoins:
Like USDT or USDC.
They are "pegged" to the value of the dollar.
They do not rise or fall as much, and are used to save or trade without volatility.
Memecoins:
Like DOGE or PEPE.
They were born as jokes, but some have built huge communities.
Be careful! They are very volatile and many have no real fundamentals.
Not all cryptos are the same nor do they have the same risk.
Before buying, understand what you are buying… and why.
