📌The Chair of the U.S. Federal Reserve 🇺🇸, Jerome Powell, begins two days of testimony before Congress amid direct criticism from President Donald Trump for not lowering interest rates, even though his position at the head of the central bank currently appears insulated from any presidential action, thanks to a decision issued by the Supreme Court last month.

📌Trump had hinted in previous statements at the possibility of dismissing Powell or appointing a successor soon, in a move that some analysts see as an attempt to exert influence over monetary policy through a 'shadow chairman' of the Fed, even before Powell's official term ends in May 2026.

📌However, the Supreme Court's acknowledgment last month of the unique nature of the Federal Reserve, and the insulation of its seven members from dismissal due to disagreements related to monetary policy, clearly indicated that Jerome Powell will complete his term to the end. It also showed that President Trump may only be able to appoint one additional member to the Fed's Board of Governors before leaving office in January 2029.
