SCAM ALERT 🚨
A fake TechCrunch reporter @TonyWrner tricked me into granting access to my X account using a social engineering scheme
Here’s what happened:
1. I received a DM asking if I could share my thoughts on AI animation for a “TechCrunch feature”
2. I clicked a Google Calendar link to book the call.
The app looked exactly like Google Calendar, but it asked for access to my X account.
3. It felt off… but I somehow didn’t think twice (huge mistake).
4. The next day, the scammer posted a fake crypto coin promo from my account: https://t.co/Ccwv9qaXOJ
5. I changed all passwords and took security measures, but didn’t realize the fake app still had access.
6. Today I noticed my pinned post was deleted, and finally everything clicked. That app was still active.
I’m honestly shocked by how easy it was for them to gain access. I usually double check everything, but this one got me.
Please be careful guys, especially if you have an audience. These scams are getting more convincing.
Also I’d really appreciate it if you report this fake account: @TonyWrner
Stay safe 🙏🙏
