EIP-7782 Improvement Proposal to Reduce Ethereum Mining Time to 6 Seconds
Barnabé Monnot, the core developer of Ethereum, has just announced the EIP-7782 improvement proposal with the ambition of reducing the block creation time to 6 seconds, halving the current 12 seconds. This proposal will be integrated into the Glamsterdam upgrade expected to be completed by the end of 2026, marking an important milestone in the history of the Ethereum network.
Notable Technical Mechanism
EIP-7782 focuses on optimizing two main time milestones in the block creation process: the block proposal time reduced from 4 seconds to 3 seconds and the verification time from 4 seconds down to only 1.5 seconds. In total, this saves 6 seconds of latency, optimizing the transaction processing performance across the network.
Impact on the DeFi Ecosystem and Network Bandwidth
The confirmation time for DeFi transactions has significantly improved after the upgrade, enhancing liquidity performance and shortening the window for arbitrage opportunities for traders. However, this solution also poses challenges regarding bandwidth and load for low-configuration verification nodes, putting great pressure on maintaining the stability and decentralization of the network.
Gas Limit Expansion Potential and Blob Supply
