The Norwegian government will impose a temporary ban in the fall of 2025 on new data centers dedicated to cryptocurrency mining using proof-of-work technology.
The Minister of Digitalization explained that proof-of-work mining consumes a large amount of energy, but it generates only limited job opportunities or minimal economic benefits, so they aim to provide electricity to more productive industries.
