The crypto market is experiencing turbulent times. On Friday, Bitcoin (BTC) reversed its early gains and plummeted to the range of $102,000, after a million-dollar move: liquidations of over $250 million in just one hour. This abrupt movement understandably worried thousands of investors with their positions forcibly closed.
The regretful fall left a marked "V" on the Bitcoin chart, which had traded above $106,000 just hours before the shakeup. Despite a modest recovery ($103,472 at the time of this writing), the leading cryptocurrency remains in volatile territory, showing signs of market fragility to geopolitical events and comments from influential figures such as U.S. President Donald Trump.
The cascade of liquidations: Ethereum, the hardest hit
The magnitude of the crash was felt throughout the crypto market. According to data from Coinglass, long liquidations (bets on the rise) in the span of one hour reached $246 million, affecting nearly 131,000 individual traders who saw their positions closed in the last 24 hours.
