A secret attempt at negotiations between the U.S. and Iran has reportedly collapsed, with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei now in hiding, according to Axios.
Trump and Erdoğan had planned a covert meeting between U.S. and Iranian officials in Istanbul. However, the meeting fell through as Khamenei could not be located — he is allegedly hiding in a bunker due to fears of an Israeli assassination attempt.
Trump was even prepared for a face-to-face meeting with the Iranian president, but without Khamenei’s approval, Iran withdrew its delegation. Following the failed talks, Trump stated that Iran was supposed to sign an agreement and warned: “Iran must never have nuclear weapons.”
In response, the U.S. has heightened military readiness, deploying six B-2 bombers from a base in Missouri.
