As of early June 2025, the total U.S. national debt stands at approximately $36.21 trillion, comprised of around $28.95 trillion held by the public and $7.26 trillion in intra‑governmental holdings. That’s roughly $106,447 per person or $273,904 per household. The debt represents about 120 – 124 percent of GDP. Annual interest costs alone are near $950 billion to $1 trillion, soon to overtake defense spending In essence, the U.S. owes more than the entire annual economic output and continues to accumulate about $4 billion daily.
