According to CIA estimates, as of 2017, the U.S. debt ranked 34th in the world in terms of its ratio to GDP. The ratio of U.S. national debt to GDP exceeded 100% in 2013 and has not fallen below this level since.

As of April 2025, the U.S. national debt exceeded $36.6 trillion, which was more than 122% of U.S. GDP.
