Pi Network has just marked an important milestone: 100 days since the launch of the open mainnet. But even as the project progresses with utility, upgrades, and expansion, concerns are arising about whether the very community that built it, the pioneers, are being left out of the process.
In Dr. Altcoin's video on the YouTube channel Dr. Altcoin, he provided a comprehensive overview of the current situation of Pi Network, what has been achieved, and what still needs urgent attention.
According to Dr. Altcoin, the open mainnet of Pi Network has gone live after six years of development. Since then, it has fully connected with the broader blockchain ecosystem, allowing developers, merchants, and users to transact through the app, online commerce, and peer-to-peer payments using Pi coin.
One of the major highlights is Pi Network Ventures, a company that has committed $100 million (both Pi and fiat USD) to fund startups focused on using Pi in real-world applications. A strong emphasis is being placed on gaming, and a standout example is Frutti Pie, a fruit-matching game integrated with Pi wallet, advertising network, and payment system. As Dr. Altcoin stated, "It's not just a game. It's proof of Pi in action."
Real-World Adoption is Happening
Dr. Altcoin emphasizes Pifest, the first major commercial event after the open mainnet launch. Held during the Pi Day week in March 2025, Pifest saw over 125,000 sellers participating and 58,000 active traders. The Map of Pi application also recorded over 1.8 million users with 45,000 reviews, a strong indication that the Pi coin is being used in real transactions.
Another significant deployment is the Pi domain name auction, attracting over 123,000 active bids. These domains represent identity and digital ownership within the Pi ecosystem. Over 3 million Pi has been used in the auction, reflecting deep community engagement.
The Pi ecosystem has undergone several improvements in user experience, particularly through the developer portal. Developers can now list applications more easily and new projects continue to join the mainnet ecosystem. Pi app creators have also started monetizing through the growing Pi advertising network.
So far, over 13 million users have moved to the mainnet. Of the 7.4 billion Pi that has been moved, 5.2 billion remain locked and 2.2 billion have now been unlocked. Meanwhile, Pi's blockchain boasts over 400,000 active nodes, demonstrating the strong security and decentralization of the network.
In terms of security, new KYC features and wallets have been implemented. Verified KYC users can now change their phone numbers, wallet access has been expanded, and two-factor authentication has become mandatory. There is also a new recovery system using email to reset passwords.
But Many Pioneers Feel Left Behind
Despite these achievements, Dr. Altcoin does not shy away from criticism. He warns that many long-time users, known as pioneers, still cannot access their Pi balances. Some users who have migrated even report that their wallets show a zero balance.
After six years of dedication to the project, many pioneers feel frustrated by the ongoing delays and technical issues in KYC and migration. Dr. Altcoin emphasizes that the Pi Core Team must act quickly and transparently with its community.
He added that the pioneers have built the Pi Network from word-of-mouth promotion to participating in the testnet, and they deserve to be rewarded fairly. A significant amount of mined Pi has yet to be migrated due to issues often beyond the users' control.
According to him, "Utility is powerful, but fairness is fundamental."
A Vision with Potential If Everyone is Included
Dr. Altcoin concluded his speech with optimism. He believes that Pi Network is on the right track to becoming a truly global cryptocurrency supported by real-world usage and a dedicated community. However, he also made it clear that growth without inclusion will not achieve its purpose.
The price of Pi may not yet be listed on major exchanges and the price of PI remains speculative, but what is being built has real value. The hope is that this progress will continue with the pioneers at the center, not on the sidelines.
