According to PANews, ZetaChain has successfully completed a lightning network upgrade, laying the groundwork for decentralized cross-chain transactions. The upgrade includes several technical improvements, such as a 70% increase in block production speed, reducing block confirmation time from 6 seconds to 4 seconds with a future goal of 2 seconds. Additionally, the upgrade enhances Universal Apps compatibility by adding support for Solana smart contracts on the mainnet and the TON chain on the testnet.
The upgrade also optimizes CCTX speed and performance with features like signature caching and gas enhancements, ensuring faster and more stable transactions. ZetaChain remains committed to decentralization, avoiding centralized sequencers or custodial bridges, and is developing layers like Speedrun within its ecosystem. This upgrade is just the beginning, with plans to support mainnets like Sui and TON and introduce new features to improve Universal App development and user experience.
While the reduced block time approaches a near-real-time experience, true real-time cross-chain execution remains challenging due to the finality speeds of different chains. However, ZetaChain continues to explore advanced functionalities to enhance CCTX performance.
