Texas police cut open machine to recover $25,000 after Bitcoin ATM scam

In Jasper County, Texas, a sheriff used cutting tools to open a Bitcoin ATM in a $25,000 cryptocurrency scam case, sparking heated discussions in the crypto community. In this case, a family was instructed by a scammer impersonating a government official to transfer funds to a Bitcoin address.

The police recovered about $32,000 from the ATM operated by Bitcoin Depot. Some netizens questioned the legality of the police destroying third-party property, but the police stated that it was to "protect citizens and their property."
