Maxwell hard fork reduces BNB Smart Chain block time to 0.75 seconds on June 30.
The upgrade includes proposals BEP-524, BEP-563, and BEP-564 to improve performance.
Binance paused BSC deposits and withdrawals briefly on June 19 for routine maintenance.
The BNB Smart Chain (BSC) is ready to undergo a substantial change by introducing the Maxwell hard fork that will be in place on June 30. This will lower block time to 0.75 seconds as compared to 1.5 seconds, allowing faster finality of transactions and overall responsiveness of the network.
The next fork is supported by the three proposals namely, BEP-524, BEP-563, and BEP-564. These changes aim at enhancing validator performance, the easiness of nodes to keep the blockchain in sync and block communication throughout the network. In shorter block Intervals the BSC anticipates a more predictable throughput and better performance in a varied network.
Technical Enhancements and Network Impact
The new upgrade will improve how validators share and confirm blocks, helping the network achieve tighter timing and faster data propagation. The changes are geared towards establishing more fluid operations to the user and programmers through enhancement of the general infrastructure standards.
Similar to all other network upgrades, Binance can briefly pause BNB Smart Chain (BEP20) deposits and withdrawals during the process. It is recommended that upgrade announcements be observed so that when the upgrade is done the user can plan to avoid interruptions during the window.
Routine Maintenance Prepares for Upgrade
On June 19, Binance temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals on BNB Smart Chain (BEP20) to perform regular wallet maintenance. At 5:55 a.m. the suspension began. UTC and lasted approximately one hour.
Binance resumed the services once it was made sure that the network was stable. This temporary maintenance was not an unexpected event, but it was one of the routine preparations that keep the infrastructure safe and inoperational before profound changes are performed, such as Maxwell.
A notable technical change of the BNB ecosystem is the Maxwell hard fork. The new network will promote the increasing demand of on-chain transaction speed and security through lower latency and communication between validators. The upgrade is a part of the long-term strategy of BNB Chain to scale the performance without compromising decentralization and accessibility by users.
