✍️ Trump attacks Jerome Powell and accuses him of causing significant damage to the American economy
Former President Donald Trump has launched a scathing critique of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, accusing him of delaying interest rate cuts, which he claims has resulted in hundreds of billions of dollars in losses for the American economy.
In a post on his platform "Truth Social," Trump said: "The delay in decision-making has cost our country enormous amounts, and Powell bears responsibility for that. I see him as one of the most negatively influential figures in economic management."
He added that cutting interest rates by 2.5 percentage points would have alleviated the burden of short-term debt facing the current administration under President Joe Biden.
Trump described the current economic situation as "disappointing and concerning," considering that the continuation of tight monetary policies amid slowing inflation is unjustified.
This escalation from Trump comes following the Federal Reserve's decision to keep interest rates steady for the fourth consecutive time, despite increasing calls – including from Trump – to ease monetary policy to support economic growth.
