Authorities take measures against illegal miners.

Chebeskov's latest comments coincided with the report from Russian authorities about the closure of another illegal mining farm in the Rostov region of Russia.

Police discovered a mining farm in a garage complex in the city of Bataysk, confiscating equipment that included 13 cryptocurrency mining devices, according to an official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia on Thursday.

Local investigators have opened a criminal case for an offense under Article 165 of the Criminal Code of Russia, the official said.

Last week, local authorities shut down another illegal cryptocurrency mining operation hidden inside a truck that was stealing electricity from a village in the Pribaikalsky region of Russia.

Criticism of Russian mining laws

Many local market observers criticized the cryptocurrency mining laws adopted in Russia in late 2024, with some arguing that they failed to fully legalize cryptocurrency mining in the country.

"No new clear regulations are being introduced, only groundwork is being laid for more accurate taxation," said BestChange's chief analyst, Nikita Zuborev, to Cointelegraph last year.

Some lawyers also pointed out that the new cryptocurrency mining laws in Russia introduced several restrictions, such as prohibiting foreign individuals from mining in the country and imposing mining restrictions in various regions.

Russia's industry thrives despite restrictions

Although Russia's cryptocurrency mining laws have added new limitations, the local mining industry has been booming, according to observations from several industry executives.

"Despite the restrictions and difficulties, mining in Russia continues to thrive," said Vyacheslav Kopylov, a representative of the local cryptocurrency mining firm Prostomining, to Cointelegraph.
