Meta-owned WhatsApp can now be used to send and receive Bitcoin using a tool called Sati, created by founder Felipe Servin. This new wallet works entirely within WhatsApp, and users do not need to download any additional apps.
Since Sati is a non-custodial wallet, users manage their cryptocurrency themselves. The program does not store private keys, so only the user can access their money. Users simply send a message to the WhatsApp bot to get started, set a PIN code, and the program links this PIN code to a special code from their phone. The user's device securely stores all wallet information.
Sati is particularly useful for people in countries like Mexico, Brazil, Turkey, and some parts of Africa, where WhatsApp is already widely used. Servin said that people in these places often face issues such as limited access to banks, weak currencies, or a lack of dollars. Using Bitcoin offers them a way to store and send money more easily.
Sati also plans to allow users to exchange stablecoins (such as digital dollars) directly for bitcoins using the Lightning Network. They are also working on tools that will help users recover their wallets in case of loss of access.
Servin said that this solution could help millions of people in countries with unstable currencies. It allows them to use bitcoins for everyday tasks such as paying bills or sending money through chat. He also mentioned that the feedback from early users has been positive.
