In his fight for privacy, he refused to hand over user data to the Russian government, even though it cost him his company and his country. Currently living in France, Durov faces 17 charges related to illegal activities on Telegram, including drug trafficking, money laundering, and cybercrime.
Opposing a discriminatory legal system
While French law stripped Durov of his right to leave the country, he stood firm, calling the charges absurd and political. He was detained during the investigation and criticized the authorities for unfair treatment, and was separated from his newborn son and ailing parents.
Durov showed resilience, stressing that he had been robbed of precious May months with his family. Despite being banned from leaving the country, he remained cooperative but criticized the police's actions and the legal regulations of the French authorities.
