Meaning and Definition of Cryptojacking

Cryptojacking is a type of cybercrime that involves unauthorized use of individuals' devices (whether computers, smartphones, tablets, or even servers) by cybercriminals to mine cryptocurrency; it resembles many other cybercrimes in that the motivation behind it is profit-making, but it differs from other threats in that it is designed to remain completely hidden and does not appear to the victim at all.

What is Cryptojacking?

Cryptojacking is a threat that hides itself within a computer or mobile device and then uses its resources to mine a cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrencies are digital or virtual money that take the form of tokens or "coins", the most famous of which is Bitcoin, but there are almost 3000 other forms of cryptocurrencies, most of which are still purely virtual, although some have begun to enter the real world through credit cards or other projects.

Cryptocurrencies use a distributed database known as "blockchain" in order to function, and the blockchain is regularly updated with information about all transactions that have occurred since the last update, and each set of recent transactions is entered in the form of a "block" using a complex mathematical process.
