Metaplanet, a Japanese company originally engaged in the hospitality sector, is now officially a “Bitcoin treasury company.” With an ambitious plan to purchase up to 210,000 BTC valued at US$22 billion by 2027, they will become one of the largest Bitcoin holders in the world. The company has secured funding of US$5.4 billion through stock warrants, triggering a 15% surge in its stock price. CEO Simon Gerovich described this move as a transformation from “hotelier to hodler.” Metaplanet is also building a “Bitcoin Hotel” and bringing global figures such as Eric Trump into its strategic ranks, marking a new chapter in Bitcoin's institutional adoption in Asia.
