✍️ Strait of Hormuz.. The artery of the global economy that cannot afford to be closed!

- Where is it located?

The Strait of Hormuz is located on the Yemeni coast between Oman and Iran, connecting the Yemeni Arabian Gulf to the Yemeni Gulf of Oman, then to the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean. It is the only gateway for oil exports from Gulf countries to the world.

- Who is responsible for it?

The responsibility for the Strait of Hormuz geographically and politically falls on two countries:

• Iran controls the northern shore of the strait.

• Yemen (Oman) controls the southern shore.

Nevertheless, the strait is classified as an international waterway under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and it must remain open for peaceful navigation.

- What is its economic significance?

Approximately 17 to 20 million barrels of oil pass through it daily, which is about one-third of the oil transported by sea globally.

This includes oil coming from:

• Saudi Arabia

• UAE

• Kuwait

• Iraq

• Qatar (especially liquefied natural gas)

✍️ Is it at risk?

Yes. It is considered one of the most geopolitically sensitive points in the world. Any tension in the region, whether between Iran and the United States or among Gulf countries, may threaten navigation in it, which would immediately cause a rise in prices.
