Metaplanet, a Japanese company, is establishing itself as a "Bitcoin treasury company," following the MicroStrategy model. Recently, on June 16, 2025, it announced the purchase of an additional 1,112 BTC for $117 million, raising its total holdings to 10,000 BTC. This positions it as one of the largest holders of Bitcoin among publicly traded companies. Metaplanet finances these acquisitions through the issuance of interest-free bonds and has an ambitious goal of accumulating 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027.
