#VietnamCryptoPolicy Vietnam is implementing an increasingly digitalization-oriented economic policy and innovation. Historically, the use of cryptocurrencies as a means of payment was prohibited, but ownership and trading were in a "gray area" of regulation.
However, with the approval of the new Digital Technology Industry Law (effective January 1, 2026), Vietnam has officially legalized digital assets, including cryptocurrencies. This move aims to position the country as a hub for blockchain innovation and to strengthen its digital economy.
The new legislation will also require the implementation of measures for cybersecurity and anti-money laundering, in line with international standards, especially considering that Vietnam has been on the FATF's "gray list" since 2023.
It is understood that, although cryptocurrencies are legalized, their use as a means of payment is still prohibited.
