The first crypto law in the world… from Vietnam and not from the West

#VietnamCryptoPolicy In a move considered the first of its kind globally, Vietnam approved on June 14, 2025, a new law named the Digital Technology Industry Law, which is set to take effect at the beginning of the new year, specifically on January 1, 2026. This law is regarded as an official recognition of digital currencies, as it classifies them into two main categories: virtual assets and encrypted assets, thereby opening the door for clear and transparent regulation of this industry within the country. This step comes in the context of Vietnam's growing interest in maintaining its position at the forefront of countries worldwide in terms of digital currency adoption rates, as it currently ranks fifth globally. Through this legislative framework, Vietnam seeks to assert its presence and establish its position among the most advanced countries in the field of modern financial technologies. The law also aims to achieve several objectives, including enhancing user protection from risks associated with fraud and financial crimes, as well as strengthening anti-money laundering mechanisms, which contributes to improving the country's image before international institutions and its exit from the gray list of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
