A 26-year-old French crypto trader and TikTok content creator was abducted on Friday night in Juvisy-sur-Orge, a suburb in northern France.

The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of €50,000 (roughly $57,000) in cryptocurrency. But after checking the victim’s crypto wallet and finding it nearly empty, they decided to release him the following day.

According to Europe 1, the victim was assaulted and forced into a stolen vehicle during the abduction. He’s been granted six days of medical leave due to his injuries.

French authorities, particularly the Organized and Specialized Crime Division, are actively investigating the case — one of many recent crypto-related abduction attempts in the country.$BTC

France has seen a troubling rise in kidnappings targeting people linked to the crypto industry. In one case, criminals attempted to kidnap the daughter and grandson of Pierre Noizat, CEO of the crypto exchange Paymium. In another, a crypto entrepreneur’s father was tortured during a €7 million ransom attempt.

Police have made several arrests, including a key suspect captured in Morocco. Most recently, the Paris prosecutor has charged 25 individuals connected to multiple violent attacks aimed at crypto figures and their families.
