Tokyo-based Metaplanet has surged into the elite ranks of Bitcoin holders, acquiring 1,112 BTC for $117.2M to reach 10,000 $BTC ($1.07B), overtaking Coinbase’s 9,267 BTC . The firm also announced a $210M zero-interest bond issuance to fund further purchases, doubling down on its ambitious goal to hold 210,000 BTC by 2027.
Metaplanet’s stock soared 26% post-announcement, capping a 417% YTD rally as investors cheer its MicroStrategy-inspired strategy. With Bitcoin now 88% of its Q1 profits, the company is betting big on $BTC as a hedge against yen weakness.
