$BTC On March 6, 2025, President Trump issued an executive order establishing a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, funded by bitcoins forfeited to the U.S. Treasury. It also created a U.S. Digital Asset Stockpile for other seized cryptocurrencies—none of which are to be sold and the Reserve is budget-neutral . The order designated the Treasury and Commerce Departments to manage these assets and explore ways to increase holdings without taxpayer burden. Agencies were directed to report held assets and review transfer authorities within 30 days . Estimated holdings include nearly 200,000 BTC held by the government as of March 2025 .
