Vietnam has taken a fascinating leap, officially legalizing crypto with its new Law on Digital Technology Industry, effective January 1, 2026. This landmark legislation differentiates between "virtual assets" and "crypto assets" like Bitcoin, establishing a formal framework. While using crypto as a payment method remains illegal and subject to penalties, owning and trading it is no longer in a complete "grey zone."

This move aims to attract foreign investment, boost digital tech leadership, and address concerns from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). So, while you can't buy your pho with BTC just yet, the legal recognition signals a promising shift for Bitcoin trading pairs, offering more clarity and potential for future regulated exchanges
