Vietnam’s Crypto Policy: Legalization and Regulatory Framework (as of June 2025)

Vietnam has made a landmark shift in its approach to cryptocurrency and digital assets with the passage of the Law on Digital Technology Industry, approved by the National Assembly on June 14, 2025. This new law provides a comprehensive legal framework for the regulation, classification, and oversight of digital assets, including cryptocurrencies, and is set to take effect on January 1, 2026.

Key Features of the New Crypto Policy

Legalization and Classification:

The law gives full legal recognition to digital assets, dividing them into two main categories:

Crypto assets: Digital assets that use encryption technology for validation, creation, issuance, storage, or transfer.

Virtual assets: Digital assets used for exchange or investment, excluding securities, digital representations of fiat currency, and other financial instruments
