On June 14, 2025, Vietnam’s National Assembly officially approved the Law on Digital Technology Industry, legalizing cryptocurrencies for the first time. This landmark legislation defines “virtual assets” and “crypto assets,” setting the foundation for a regulated digital asset market. The law, effective from January 1, 2026, includes licensing requirements, AML/KYC standards, and cybersecurity rules, aligning with global compliance frameworks. It excludes securities and stablecoins but recognizes crypto as a legitimate asset class. With over 17 million users, Vietnam is positioning itself as a regional leader in blockchain innovation, paving the way for a secure, transparent, and regulated crypto ecosystem.
