Elon Musk's Theory: Nick Szabo Might Be Satoshi Nakamoto

Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed his thoughts on who is behind the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin (BTC), Satoshi Nakamoto. Musk mentioned Nick Szabo as the most likely figure behind the scenes.

According to Musk, if you trace the line of thought that developed before Bitcoin emerged, Szabo is a figure who wrote extensively and developed similar ideas.

“I really don’t know who created Bitcoin, but Nick Szabo seems to be the person most responsible for the development of its concepts,” Musk said in a podcast with Lex Fridman in 2021.

For your information, Nick Szabo has long been suspected as Nakamoto because he once designed BitGold, an early crypto project that inspired Bitcoin. Szabo's writing style and the technical terms he used are also said to be very similar to those in the Bitcoin whitepaper.

However, Musk also pointed out that sometimes, a person's name may not be more important than the big idea they bring.

“Maybe a name is just a symbol of an idea, and it could be that a figure like Nick Szabo becomes the name attached to the birth of Bitcoin, even if he is not the actual creator,” Musk concluded.
