The end of the 'bromance' in the White House: why did the relationship between Trump and Musk implode?

A broken relationship, a war of messages on social media and a threat of contract cancellation: the latest chapters of a drama between magnates.

Just a week ago, South African billionaire Elon Musk and U.S. President Donald Trump posed together in the Oval Office during a sort of farewell ceremony dedicated to the tech mogul, who left his position within the government administration after showing his rejection of a tax plan presented by the government.

However, his departure was amicable, at least at first. Both men praised each other: Trump stated that Musk's contribution in his early months of government was "invaluable," while the South African said he hoped to remain "a friend and advisor to the president."

Musk left the White House that day, although with the gaze of the American public upon him, almost with the certainty that he would continue to influence the president's political handling during his term.

In recent hours, Musk and Trump have used their social media to confirm a personal and political break that had been speculated about in recent days, after the South African launched strong criticisms of the Trump tax plan, which he has labeled as a "disgusting abomination."

The president, true to his political style, did not take the criticisms well. Trump said he was "disappointed" with Musk, whom he accuses of "going crazy" after learning that his budget proposal would eliminate subsidies for the purchase of electric cars, in addition to predicting that the billionaire's next move would be to "speak ill" of him.
