The Regretful Story of Greg Schoen: Selling 1,700 Bitcoin When Cheap, Now Worth Rp3 Trillion!

There is an interesting story from one of the early Bitcoin users, named Greg Schoen. He claimed to have once owned 1,700 Bitcoin (BTC) in the early days when the price was still US$0.06 (around Rp980) per coin. However, he sold them when the price had risen slightly to US$0.30 (around Rp4,900).

Regrets That Haunt Him Up to Trillions of Rupiah

Schoen expressed his regrets through a post on platform X (formerly Twitter) in May 2011. At that time, the price of Bitcoin had risen to US$8.

"If only I had kept 1,700 BTC when it was valued at US$0.06, instead of selling it at US$0.30, but today it has reached US$8," wrote Schoen.

Just imagine, if Schoen had kept his 1,700 Bitcoins until now, his wealth could reach US$180 million (around Rp3 trillion)! This is calculated with the average price of Bitcoin around US$106 thousand per coin currently.

Still Holding Some Crypto

Despite regretting his massive sale, Greg Schoen confirmed that he still owns some Bitcoin and Ethereum (ETH). He made this confirmation through a post in 2017.

"I know the current price of Bitcoin, no need to be reminded. I still have some Bitcoin, but far from the amount I used to have. I also bought some Ethereum and Verge (XVG) early on, just regret not buying more," he said.
