Salona was a significant Roman city located near present-day Solin, just north of Split, Croatia. Founded in the 3rd century BCE, it became the capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia in 9 CE. At its peak, Salona boasted a population of around 60,000 to 70,000 inhabitants, making it one of the largest cities in the late Roman Empire. The city featured typical Roman urban planning, including a forum, amphitheater, public baths, and an aqueduct.
