Tel Aviv Hit by Iranian Missile StrikesIran had threatened retaliatory strikes after Israel carried out a wide-ranging attack on Iran's nuclear facilities and military leaders

Iran fired a barrage of ballistic missiles at Israel in retaliation for Israel's surprise attack on its foe’s nuclear facilities and military leadership. The Iranian strikes injured 34 people, while two people were killed and 19 injured in a rocket attack.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said Iran had “crossed a red line” by firing missiles at populated civilian areas. Most of the surface-to-surface missiles were intercepted, Israel’s military said. The U.S. assisted Israel in defending against Iran’s attack, a U.S. official said.

In waves of strikes that began early Friday local time and continued through the day, Israel killed the head of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and struck dozens of targets, pushing the region into a new conflict with uncertain consequences.

Israel said it had carried out further strikes overnight targeting Iran’s air defenses.

President Trump told The Wall Street Journal he was aware of Israel’s plans to attack Iran: "Heads-up? It wasn’t a heads-up. It was, we know what's going on." Earlier, he urged Iran’s leadership to make a deal “before there is nothing left.”
