History of Israel-Iran Relations:

* Pre-1979 (Allies): Surprisingly, Iran and Israel had cordial relations before the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran. Iran was one of the first Muslim-majority countries to recognize Israel after its establishment in 1948. Both countries saw each other as strategic allies against Arab nationalism in the region, engaging in intelligence sharing, economic cooperation, and arms trade.

* Post-1979 (Hostility): The Islamic Revolution fundamentally shifted Iran's foreign policy. The new Iranian government, led by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, adopted a fiercely anti-Israel stance, severing all diplomatic and commercial ties and viewing Israel as an illegitimate "Zionist regime." Iran's support for Palestinian groups and later Hezbollah and the Houthis solidified its antagonistic relationship with Israel.

* "Shadow War": For decades, the conflict largely played out as a "shadow war," involving covert operations, cyberattacks, assassinations of scientists, and proxy conflicts in other regional states (like Syria and Lebanon).

* Escalation in 2024-2025: The recent direct exchanges of strikes mark a significant escalation from this long-standing shadow conflict.$SOL $BNB $BNB
