In the view of Islamic Sharia, if a dog's saliva (spittle) comes into contact with a body or an item, it becomes impure (najis) and there is a specific method to purify it.

🔹 Rules based on Hadith:

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:

> "If a dog licks the vessel of anyone of you, then it must be washed seven times, and one of those times should be with soil."

📚 (Sahih Muslim: 279)

---

✅ Correct Method:

1. It must be washed a total of 7 times with water.

2. Among those washes, one must be done using soil/clay.

This can be done at the first, second, or last time (using soil at any one of those times is sufficient).

🧴 If it gets on clothes?

If a dog's saliva gets on clothing, the cloth must also be washed in the same way 7 times and one time must include soil.

If soil is not available, soap or disinfectant may be used—many scholars have approved this as a substitute for soil in the modern era (although the original Sunnah is soil).
