Here’s the latest on the Israel–Iran conflict as of June 13, 2025:

🔥 What’s happening now

1. Operation Rising Lion – Israel’s massive airstrike

• On June 13, Israel launched a sweeping preemptive campaign named “Rising Lion”, targeting Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure—including facilities at Natanz, Fordow, and military housing in Tehran, Tabriz, and Khorramabad.

• The operation killed high-ranking IRGC commanders (Hossein Salami, Mohammad Bagheri, Amir Ali Hajizadeh) and several nuclear scientists—marking the most significant strike inside Iran since the Iran–Iraq War.

2. Iran’s response

• Iran responded with a swarm of 100+ drones targeting Israel—intercepted near the border, causing around 50 injuries, no confirmed structural damage yet.

• Supreme Leader Khamenei vowed “severe punishment,” but Iran faces constraints due to potential U.S. involvement and internal concerns.

3. Global repercussions

• The strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities caused alarm over possible radiation leaks—IAEA is urging for restraint.

• Oil prices spiked nearly 10%, with Brent crude hitting ~$73/barrel (largest surge since April 2023), reigniting fears of stagflation and regional instability.

• The U.S., EU, UN, NATO, and Gulf states have expressed deep concern. Pressure is mounting on both nations to de‑escalate and return to diplomacy.

4. Diplomatic context

• These strikes coincide with scheduled U.S.–Iran nuclear talks in Oman and an IAEA censure over Iran’s uranium enrichment near weapons-grade levels—timed ahead of potential sanctions.

• Iran previously announced new enrichment sites in defiance of UN pressure.
