🇺🇸 Most retail industry leaders expect President Trump will not impose “retaliatory” tariffs after the 90-day window, according to a survey by AlixPartners.
The June 1 survey of brand and consumer company executives found that the majority believe President Trump will withdraw steep tariffs on the EU, Vietnam, India, and Mexico after the 90-day suspension ends in July.
Although Mexico is not subject to “retaliatory tariffs,” it is currently facing new duties from the Trump administration. Executives surveyed expect those existing tariffs to remain unchanged.
Currently, imports from these regions are subject to a 10% tariff during the U.S.’s ongoing bilateral negotiations. Most respondents believe the 10% rate will be maintained after talks conclude, rather than reverting to the higher rates announced on April 2.
For example, 53% of retail leaders expect tariffs on Vietnamese imports to stay at 10%, instead of rising to the initially planned 46%.
