🇺🇸 President Trump said he will send letters to trade partners within the next two weeks to notify them that the U.S. will impose unilateral tariffs if no agreements are reached. He stated there is no need to extend the negotiation deadline, as the U.S. has already reached “great deals” with China and the UK.
President Trump said: “We’ll send a letter making it clear: this is the deal – take it or leave it.” He emphasized that the U.S. cannot negotiate with over 150 countries and will now focus on around 15 key nations, including Japan and South Korea.
His remarks come as about 60 days have passed since the start of the 90-day tariff suspension period.
Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent noted that the Trump administration may extend the July 9 deadline for key partners such as the EU, provided they continue to negotiate in good faith.
