🧨 “Lost your bitcoins without lifting a finger?” Understand the controversy of wallets that charge for inactivity! 🧨
Did you know that some Bitcoin and crypto wallets are already withdrawing your balance if you stay inactive for too long?
That's right… many users are discovering this the hard way: logging in after months and finding their balance at ZERO. 😱
📌 What is happening?
Recently, the Alby wallet (used on the Lightning Network ⚡) caused an uproar after applying an “inactivity” clause: if you don’t move your account for 12 months, your balance may be automatically withdrawn!
Several users report losses of significant amounts — from R$ 1,000 to over R$ 25,000! 💸
And it's not just Alby:
NiceHash applies a monthly fee if you don’t use the account.
KuCoin charges a fee after 90 days of inactivity on the KuCard.
🧠 Why does this matter to you?
If you have any custodial wallet, especially from smaller or older projects, read the terms of use and be aware of inactivity clauses. Your balance could disappear while you sleep, travel, or simply forget about it for a few months. 😬
✅ How to protect yourself?
🔹 Make at least one movement per year (even if minimal). 🔹 Prefer non-custodial wallets (you control your keys, you control your balance). 🔹 Set calendar alerts to “move” the wallet before 12 months. 🔹 And whenever possible, read the terms before trusting your money!
