#Bitcoin is often seen as the OG crypto currency and over time only a few improvements has been integral to the scalability of the token that we all know and love, but this October 2025, that will all change as Bitcoin core developer Gloria Zhao and the MPR#32406 directive aims to remove the current 80-bit limit on the OP_RETURN function and instead introduce a 4 Mb data cap.

What this means is that no longer will $BTC hold only financial data on the blockchain, but also images, text and possible even video.

This change is controversial and some experts claim that not only will it flood the blockchain with redundant data but it could also introduce problems with scripted code from malicious actors, that potentially could wreck havoc on the blockchain as a whole. Other concerns are the introduction of needless spam and other unnecessary data on the blockchain previously designed only for financial data.

Others are optimistic about the change since it could corroborate a more close knit community with integrated memes and pieces of historical events which could never be changed or erased thus making the Bitcoin blockchain a permanent library of global history for humankind.

What is your opinion about the upcoming change? Do you prefer the old 80-bit limit as it is, or is a 4Mb upgrade a welcome change?
