Ripple has allocated $5 million to fund blockchain programs across six APAC nations through its global UBRI academic initiative.
Universities in South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, and Australia will conduct hands-on blockchain research and develop new academic programs.
The initiative now includes 60 global partners, with 13 in APAC, and supports AI integration, privacy solutions, and asset tokenization research.
Ripple has made a further $5 million commitment to develop blockchain education and research in six Asia-Pacific (APAC) countries as part of the company’s U.B.R.I. (University Blockchain Research Initiative). This deepens the company's long-term relationship with educational institutions in the APAC region.

Renewed and New University Partnerships
Ripple has renewed partnerships in South Korea, Japan, and Singapore, while extending new grants to institutions in Taiwan and Australia. Korea University received a six-year, $1.1 million grant to support ongoing blockchain research. Faculty members are exploring innovations such as blockchain sharding, NFT privacy using zk-SNARKs, and transaction mixers that preserve privacy while remaining audit-friendly. Yonsei University continues its collaboration following a partnership launched last fall.
In Japan, Ripple is maintaining its relationships with Kyoto University and the University of Tokyo. Combined funding for both institutions now exceeds $1.5 million. These partnerships contribute to continued research and student engagement in blockchain-related initiatives.
Singapore is a critical part of Ripple's strategy, with funding awarded to Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the continued support of the National University of Singapore (NUS). NTU is developing an AI agent network on the XRP Ledger to assist with transparent, collaborative AI platforms - this will allow for greater student participation and experimentation with XRPL technologies.
Entry into Taiwan and Growth in Australia
Ripple’s expansion into Taiwan marks the start of its partnership with the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST). The grant will fund research into real-world asset tokenization across blockchains like XRP Ledger, Ethereum, and Solana. NKUST will also launch a Student Builders Club and run an XRPL validator to increase student engagement with blockchain infrastructure.
Australia continues to play a growing role in Ripple’s academic efforts. The Australian National University (ANU) received renewed funding to support legal coursework and research centered on Evernode, a proposed Layer 2 platform for XRPL. Victoria University joins UBRI to develop curriculum and research projects aimed at building blockchain knowledge and practical expertise. Ripple’s total investment in Australian institutions now stands at $1.3 million.
Advancing Research and Regional Engagement
UBRI has brought over $11 million into the APAC region, funding blockchain, crypto, and fintech research. In South Korea, Hanyang University researchers are working on zk-SNARKs improvements to enhance blockchain scalability and privacy. NUS initiatives, funded by previous grants, led to the first university-based decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) in Asia and a rise in blockchain-educated graduates.
UBRI now supports 60 academic institutions across 28 countries, including 13 in APAC. The program will host its seventh annual UBRI Connect during the XRP Ledger Apex summit. The event begins with a pre-summit at NUS, reinforcing APAC’s role in global blockchain research and education.
