Stop copying other people.. it won't work
You see someone with a massive portfolio, showing 100x winners and it triggers something in you..
You don't really know what.. maybe admiration, maybe envy, maybe FOMO
So you copy them.. You ape into their conviction, assuming their result can be yours too
Truth is.. You're borrowing someone else’s strategy without understanding what it took to earn it
- You don’t know how they think..
- You don’t know what they’re willing to risk..
- You don’t know their fallback plan if it all blows up..
They might be 23 with no children and a 10 year runway
You might be 38 with a mortgage and two kids to feed
Totally different games.. Totally different stakes
CT, Youtube, the media, the finance channels.. they constantly reinforces this illusion that we’re all playing the same game..
That one strategy, one bet or one narrative fits all.. It doesn’t
Investing is deeply personal.. What’s a brilliant move for someone else might be a disaster for you
A long term hold might not work for someone who can’t sleep during 30% drawdowns
A swing trade might destroy someone who works full time and can’t track price action
A blue chip might make perfect sense for one person and be an overleveraged risk for someone else
Its the root of so much regret with investing.. chasing outcomes that were never designed for your situation in the first place
So.. what do you want?
Security? Freedom? Status? Bling? Lambos? Retirement at 50? Generational wealth for your kids?
Your answer will be different to mine.. and that’s the entire point
You find clarity when you finally stop trying to win someone else’s game
Ironically.. that’s usually when things start working
Just play your own game and stop comparing yourself to others..
Because when it's all said and done.. you’re the one who has to live with the outcome, not them
